The physical properties of organic pigments are density, specific surface area, particle size, crystal form, dispersibility and stability. However, since the surface energy of such fine particles is extremely high, a strong agglomeration is formed to form aggregates (in the range of 0.05 to 0.4 m), and the aggregates are agglomerated to form aggregates (sizes 0.1 to 20 m), so that the usual organic pigments The particles are a mixture of aggregates and agglomerates.

The size of the organic pigment particles has a great influence on the color performance of the coating. On the one hand will affect the paint hiding power and color strength, in a certain range of pigment particle size increases, paint hiding power increases; pigment particles become smaller, the surface increases, paint color strength increased. Pigment size of the paint also has the impact of color, usually large particle size, particle size distribution is wide, shiny dark; otherwise bright color. On the other hand, the pigment particle size also affects the UV resistance of the coating. When the particles become smaller, the specific surface area increases, the absorbed light energy increases, the degree of damage also increases, so the paint fades faster. Pigment particle size is small, the smaller the gravity, the paint is not easy to stratified precipitation; but the small particle size of the larger surface area, the surface can increase the chance of flocculation of paint also increased, is not conducive to grinding and dispersion.

Organic pigments mostly exist in crystalline state, and "homogeneous alien" phenomenon is common. Copper phthalocyanine crystal form, common with Q-type red light blue (such as pigment blue 15) poor stability, after a specific solvent treatment is converted to a stable P-type green light blue (such as 15: 3); pigment purple 19 ( Quinacridone structure) α, β and γ3 kinds of crystal form, α-type no application value, β-type purple, and γ-type blue red. In the paint formulation design, pay attention to the rational use of additives and solvents to prevent the different crystal forms under certain conditions of change, so that the paint shade drift, it is difficult to identify the standard plate color.

Organic pigments are in solid state, dispersed in the application of the coating medium, the pigment is easy to disperse, and the stability of the dispersion system, a direct impact on the performance of coatings and coatings.
